Wearables and the Internet of Things - Should I break down and get an iFit Watch
Wearables and the Internet of Things - Should I break down and get an iFit Watch

Are you as amazed/overwhelmed as I am at all the new innovations that are happening every minute of every day in the Technology market.  Every time you blink there is a new feature on social media, a new app for your phone, a new wearable.  How long do you honestly think it is before we start having implants in our body.  Or is it already happening??  How long do you think before it goes mainstream.  I know if I was a parent of a newborn I would seriously be thinking about having a tracking and medical monitor placed under their skin.  Remember James Bond and "Q" we thought his inventions were science fiction - a pen with a bullet, lol - impossible.  Look how far we have come.

Your social media accounts track everything you do.  You don't even have to sign up they are just happening behind the scenes.  Opened up my email this morning and it was like fate there was an advertisement for an iFit Watch.  Can google and advertisers read my mind now, is my house bugged.  Seriously I had been talking (not tweeting or searching), just talking about how I would like an iFit Watch and voila there it is "on sale" in my inbox.  Onto the web I went and started filling out the purchase information, "add to shopping cart" click, address (it's saved somewhere in cyberspace) up it pops, email same thing.  2/3 rds of the way through I get distracted (yes I'm probably on twitter or FB).  Next thing I know there is another email in my inbox  saying "Hey Lynne - is something wrong - you didn't complete your purchase".  I'm surprised it didn't just fill out the rest of the information for me.  This is "big data and analytics" at work, analyzing everything that is happening on their webpage in real time.

I have a love/hate relationship with technology.  Having a pretty wild imagination it actually scares me at times and yet I want to put a wearable on my wrist to track every movement my body makes.  Why do I need a watch/band to tell me my sleep patterns?  My clock tells me that at 2 am, 4:30 am, 6:30 am and sometimes in between.  How exciting now I will be able to see it in writing.  My Samsung phone is in my pocket when I walk or golf, happily counting my steps.  Not enough I want the whole km/calorie counter.  I want to know when I can have another piece of pizza.

All this technology is amazing to me, I feel like a kid in a candy store. Last night I watched a pvr'd episode of "CSI Cyber - The Evil Twin" episode.  They did an amazing reenactment of the murder using the victim and the murderer's phone.  The phone kept track of every movement they made and when they overlaid them you could see how the murder was committed.   I drop my phone in the lake and kaboom.  The murderer broke the phone, took it apart and flushed it down the toilet and somehow were able to put it all back together, blow dry it and magically it worked.  You have to love Hollywood what great imaginations they have or DO they?  Is this actually happening?

Another surprise that came in my email was from Google+ notifying me that I had a "story".  I didn't even know I had signed up for this and there was a picture journal of everything I had done on Saturday including pictures that were on my computer of my shopping trip with my daughter.  Little red dots showed all the places we stopped on a map of Toronto.  Yes I took a picture of my pizza lunch and yes it was in the picture journal.  My phone tracked everywhere I went.

I'm thinking with an iFit Watch I wouldn't need any more trips to the doctor, I could just send her my updates from my "wearable".  My phone knows me better than my husband of 37 years.  Now if I could just get it to laugh at my jokes :).  Let me know what you think about your wearable!!!
